invisalign DC

Invisalign is an orthodontic appliance that is not visible and more comfortable than traditional braces. Invisalign uses a series of invisible aligners that fit over your teeth and are designed to move your teeth gradually into the position you desire. The removable aligners are less than one millimeter thick and are very hard to detect so that you can wear them with confidence. Invisalign is much more convenient than braces because you can removed them to eat or to bursh and floss your teeth. Our cosmetic dentist Dr. Charley Varipapa can help determine if Invisalign is right for you.

How Does Invisalign Work?

The Invisalign method is based on a concept first introduced in the 1970s that uses a series of dental impressions to determine the optimal position of the teeth. The Invisalign method is simpler than its predecessors, requiring only one set of impressions and photographs of the teeth, taken during an initial consultation.

Invisalign Benefits

  • Invisible.
  • Removable.
  • Cost Effective.
  • More comfortable.
  • Easy To Change.

The impressions are used to create a three-dimensional forecast of how the teeth may be positioned gradually. The patient wears a series of precision made clear aligners in stages. Invisalign is manufactured by Align Technologies dental laboratory using the CAD/CAM process. The aligners are sent to the dentist, who typically dispenses them in groups of one or two at a time every four to six weeks so that treatment can be properly managed. Each aligner must be worn in its specific order for about two weeks, during which time it moves the teeth in small increments. The aligners are removable for eating, drinking certain beverages and brushing and flossing.

Invisalign vs. Braces

Braces can be used for certain complex teeth problems, but can be an unsightly solution. Invisalign is designed to provide an effective and attractive alternative to teeth straightening. We still offer braces for clients that prefer them. Braces have been improved so that they are smaller, less visible and more efficient. These newer wire-and-bracket braces also help to correct misalignment much faster than before. Call our Washington DC dentist office to explore your options for gaining straighter teeth.
